“Work with what you got” (PICTURE HEAVY.)

So let’s begin with the title of this post, “Work with what you got”. These photos were taken for a project my roomie Sasha has for a class at FIDM. The point of her project is to show to people that instead of going shopping every time we have a new event to go to (like so many of us girls do), to search through the back of our closets, and our boyfriend’s, girlfriend’s, best friend’s, roommate’s, mom’s, sister’s, brother’s closets as well. It’s a fun way to come up with new outfits without spending money! I had a great time taking these pictures and was excited to see the outfits that I came up with myself!

Outfit #1:

Military style jacket courtesy of my wonderful boyfriend and musician Nick of Icarus Landing (shameless plug?). He found this amazing jacket at Urban Outfitters at the beginning of the year on sale for $9.99! It was originally somewhere between $90-$100 and it was such an exciting deal! I’ve tried it on a few times but it always seemed too big, but not today! The shirt underneath is a really comfy 3/4 length shirt courtesy of my roommate Sasha, also from UO. The length is perfect to wear with leggings and it has a very flattering shape. The black leggings are also hers, which we cut some slits in for a little badass-ness. Came out pretty well, don’t you think? My turquoise wedges I got last year from Payless during BOGO! I love this outfit. So many different things going on here but it comes together very well! Paired with a turquoise cocktail ring and some bangles (from Sasha)! Also the brown over the knee boots are the ones I’ve mentioned before that I cannot get enough of. They look amazing with this outfit as well. Did I mention they were only $30?? THAT’S RIGHT, ALLLLL that shoe for only $30 from GOJane. I stumbled across that site on my OTK boots search and I was pleasantly surprised. So many amazing shoes for soo cheap. It could be trouble for me.

Outfit #2:

The suede blazer my boyfriend picked up at a thrift store for Halloween and I’ve been wearing it ever since! I got so lucky. It’s actually a woman’s blazer so it fits me perfectly. The t-shirt underneath is a Forgotten Saints tee which is my boyfriend’s as well that was a freebie he picked up at an event awhile ago at The Viper Room. Same ripped leggings from outfit #1 and a pair of pink flats I got a few years ago from Payless! Very easy outfit perfect for just hanging out with friends, going to a concert, bar, anything really. Very badass rockstar-ish.

Outfit #3:

This is one of my favorites of the most recent purchases I’ve made. A one-piece jumper with harem pants. It is so perfect. Sooo easy. I picked it up at a thrift store called Buffalo Exchange on La Brea in LA. That store is SO AMAZING. So many cheap finds. They have new and used items and I can’t go in there without picking something up. The oxford heels are a friends and they’re from Forever 21. All the necklaces are from my roomie Sasha and they dress up the outfit a bit more. I’ve also worn this with flat black ankle boots which make it a little more casual.

Outfit #4:

Does that bottom half look familiar? Oh yes! I folded down the top of the jumper to wear it as pants and paired it with a patterned blouse I got a few years ago from Target. I actually got the shirt in 3 different patterns because they were on sale for like $3.99 or something crazy.

And there you have it! All of these outfits were in my closet (or the closets of people I live with.) This was a really fun experiment and I’m excited to keep doing it. With Christmas coming a lot of us can’t afford to splurge on that one piece of clothing we “have to buy” so this is a perfect way to spice up “our” wardrobe and find new ways to wear things. Again, perfect for the recessionistas. Such a fun challenge! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. I’d love to see some of my readers try this out and send me some photos! Or any photos of yourself in some stylish duds. Send any photos to sasha@lainspiration.com. If I’m extremely inspired you might see yourself here! I hope I’ve inspired a few with this post!

Peace & Love,

P.S. Please excuse the bathroom pictures. Working with a point and shoot camera and crappy lighting in most rooms, and with it getting dark at 5 p.m. we had to…. work with what we got. Haha. I’ll be getting a much better camera in the near future to bring you beautiful photos! Cheers!

P.P.S. So you’re not confused, my roomie’s name is also Sasha. Just wanna clear that up.
